This isn’t a good post, but it’s one that needs keeping.
I’ve been doing this list initially on Twitter, and then when it grew too long I moved it over to a Facebook Group.
But rather than keeping it in a closed group on a closed site, here it can be available for everyone to see.
So here’s a list of all the breweries that I’m aware of that have closed down in 2022. The reasons are numerous, but tend to focus on a few.
I’m only listing ones that have been announced publically, I’ve a seperate list of those I know or suspect of closing but haven’t announced it yet.
If you know of any that I’ve missed, please let me know.
Addendum: I was unsure how to list or remove two breweries from this list as they reopened. One was Weird Beard, the other Kelham Island. So I’ve decided to remove Weird Beard completely as the new operation of it involves people running it who were previously involved. But I’m leaving Kelham Island on, struck out, because there is no continuation of ownership there. It’s up to you how you want to decide on those.
Addendum Addendum: I’ve taken S43 off the list as it appears that there’s a conflict of communication and I now don’t know what’s going on there. All of these were checked before going onto the list, but things happen and sometimes things get misunderstood.
Okay, it seems that S43 have closed, sold their kit and are planning on contract brewing in the future, so they’re back on the closed list until I hear otherwise directly from them.
Addendum Addendum Addendum: PLEASE DON’T JUST COPY AND PASTE THIS LIST ELSEWHERE PRETENDING YOU DID THE WORK TO MAINTAIN IT. THAT’S A REALLY DICKISH THING TO DO.
By all means please post it elsewhere, share it around, but at least acknowledge the source.
Thanks to everyone who’s made me aware of breweries to add to this list. It’s also recently been updated with information available at Quaffale.org.uk although I’ve left off some breweries from their list as they’ve either closed before 2022, just moved premises, or I can’t find anything official about the closure.
